Italian foods are very well known and well loved all around the world. It is always possible to find Italian food in some form on any continent. The foods are full of flavor and emanate an aroma which only serves to enhance the flavors. The flavors occur in part due to the use of particular ingredients like various cheeses, tomatoes and olive oil are always included in their recipes. Staples like wheat and semolina flour are included in the pastas and bread. Some of the more renowned Italian dishes include pizza and pasta dishes. They’re so well adored that families and eateries in the United States and Europe took the recipes and tailored them to their own culture.

The history of Italian food goes back to the Roman empire. Italian recipes emerged around 2000 years ago. Italian food gained popularity and got divided into various types of regional sub cuisines after the fall of the Roman Empire. It was categorized into 3 parts:

Northern Italian Recipes: These dishes are prepared largely by making use of ingredients like pork, rice, fish, rice and corn. Various kinds of cheese and sausage preparations are also contained in these recipes.

The Central Italian Food, which includes the delectable Lasagna, Tortellini and Ham, in addition to a wide selection of pasta recipes, served in conjunction with delicious sauces.

Southern Italian Recipes: In this region ingredients like fish, cheese, tomatoes, olives, capers, artichokes, sardines, tuna and olive oil all play a huge role. Olive oil is used generously in salads and pasta dishes.

A variety of ingredients are used in preparing Italian food, which range from different fruits and vegetables to rich cheese, cream and other milk products along with poultry, pork, seafood and fish. Outside of Italy, the most popular dishes include pastas, pizzas and Italian breads, but Italian recipes also include various types of soups, salads and sausages which are highly valued by gourmets, preferably along with a glass of Italian wine.

Pasta recipes made out of wheat flour or durum wheat semolina play an important role in Italian dishes all over the world. The different kinds of pastas used to make a host of recipes include Linguini, Penne, Fetucini, Spaghetti and Ravioli.

For rich and tasty coffees you should try Cappucino, Espresso and Caffe Corretto . The deserts like Spumoni, Cannoli and Granitas are an ideal complement and excellent way to top off your delicious Italian menu.

The italian recipes mostly contains vegetables that helps your body a lot. The best italian recipes contains not just tomato, but other healthy component too.

Healthy eating guidelines are not always easy to come by on your own. When you can find products that help you to improve your own nutrition and health habits that can also provide you with information on how to best utilize that nutrition, this can be incredibly beneficial to your weight-loss and health regimen.

Too many programs or supplements and other health and weight-loss related products do not carry with them any advice or assistance on how to most effectively utilize the products for maximum efficiency and health. If you are using meal replacement bars, nutritional supplements and specially designed healthy snacks in an attempt to lose weight and become healthier, are you not better served by a program that ties all these items together and includes healthy eating guidelines?

A program that can be used to your best results may cost more than one that comes without such assistance, but having something that will help you to make the best use of your program gives far more value for the dollar than one that leaves you to fend for yourself. Let’s face it, if we were capable of designing and sticking to healthy eating habits, we wouldn’t need to be hunting down meal replacements, vitamins, fish oil supplements and healthy snacks.

Having handy, healthy eating guidelines will not automatically insure weight loss and increased health, nor will having access to nutritionally balanced supplements and snacks. Losing weight and getting healthy takes time, effort and commitment, that’s the really difficult part.

However, having the right products and the right information can make an enormous difference in the process. With good information and healthy eating guidelines at hand, your own confidence about your ability to reach your goal will increase. Improved confidence helps to sustain willpower and reduce slipping back into old habits.

Peanut Butter Bars Provide Quick Energy

One of the things we tend to do when trying to become healthy, or healthier, is look at what we’re eating. There’s strong evidence that we, as a population, take in far too much animal protein. While there’s no denying that’s largely because it tastes good, there are numerous alternatives to meat for nutrition and energy, peanut butter bars being just one.

Healthy Eating Habits May Be Easier Than You Think

Given the way food is presented to us today in the media, in the stores, and driving down the street, it is incredibly easy to fall into nutritional patterns that can only be described as unhealthy; and, that’s if you’re feeling generous. Let’s face it, the manufacturers don’t add all the salt and fat just to make us need to spend money on gym memberships; they do it because it makes the food taste good. This means that, once started, it can seem impossible to develop healthy eating habits, but

Well, being a personal trainer and a perfectionist, I did some research to find out who they are and how one becomes a personal trainer to the stars. The research I uncovered about these so-called celebrity personal trainers that charge fees of 0+ per hour for their expertise indicates that, like the rest of the personal training industry, there are no requirements of any sort to become a celebrity trainer. Most of these celebrity trainers simply happened to be in the right place at the right time.

I had a close friend who was in a car accident. Since the insurance covered it, he went to see a chiropractor after the accident. During the first few visits, he and the chiropractor got to talking, and they hit it off. The chiropractor happened to know some celebrities, and just by knowing him, my friend got a gig training a star. Fortunately, my friend had a good knowledge base and was great at working with people, although the chiropractor had no real way of knowing this at the time. There was something in it for the chiropractor, though, in that he got a cut for recommending the my friend to the celebrity.

Mangers of celebrities would be doing their star clients a favor if they used a little more caution when hiring personal trainers and the like. As with any referral, a thorough screening and background check are in order before simply hiring a trainer on some other celebrity’s say-so. Unfortunately for the client, the endorsement by another famous person is often all it takes for an unqualified musclehead, who knows virtually nothing about how to work with people or train the human body, to get in the door.

Just Because They’re Famous Doesn’t Mean They’re Knowledgeable

I want to state that I am by no means bashing personal trainers who work with stars, or any individual’s personal trainer – although it’s always important to find and hire a trainer with the highest level of education, experience, and certifications. Unfortunately, it’s not necessarily the people with the best qualifications, but rather those with the best marketing and biggest mouths who usually get all the attention. Take note: This DOES NOT MEAN they know a hill of beans about training. The thing about the lack of regulation in this field is that you don’t really have to be very well-qualified to get a job doing it. If you’re good at causing a big commotion and conveying confidence about your ability to make people feel good, you will succeed in the business, whether or not you can actually deliver on your promise.

Take a look at the industry and you’ll see that celebrity personal trainers are a dime a dozen now. All the biggest stars – Britney Spears, P‑Diddy, J‑Lo, Oprah, Madonna, Tom Cruise – have personal trainers. Even the trainers themselves are getting famous now, just because of their celebrity clients. Two of the most celebrated personal trainers are Bob Green, Oprah’s trainer, and Gunter, trainer to many celebrities.

I have watched many of these personal trainers on the news and listened to their advice about which diets work and which are the best nutrition products on the market. Trust me, their biggest gift is their ability to get in front of a camera to sell their products, because their advice is questionable, at best. Still, no one can argue their ability to generate millions of dollars because of their proximity to the rich and famous. The sad part is that they’re making a large portion of their money by exploiting millions of uneducated, unmotivated people, playing on their unrealistic desires to look like the next celebrity on the big screen.

We’re Not All Going to Look Like Supermodels or Professional Athletes

Let’s say you work really hard and you’re in the best shape of your life, but you still don’t look like your idealized image of the perfect man or woman. People, let’s be honest with each other. Not everyone is going to look like Pamela Anderson or Brad Pitt. Genetics play a big role in our looks, not to mention the cosmetic enhancements created through plastic surgery, air brushing, and camera tricks. Being healthy and fit doesn’t mean you will never have a little fat on your body. Looking great and feeling great without the aid of drugs, cosmetics, and surgery will take you to better places than any amount of fame will ever give you.

Before you decide you want to look like a cover girl or a superjock, it’s really important to get comfortable with yourself exactly as you are. Sure, you’re going to feel better as you lose weight and build muscle, but the you inside is going to be the same. Yes, your shapely new build may inspire confidence, but the raw materials of your personality are going to be exactly the same. Are you fundamentally happy with your life and who you are now – or are you waiting around for external improvements to make you feel better on the inside? Just like the roots of a plant determine the quality of its fruit, it’s the invisible, internal stuff that determines the happiness of your external life.

Celebrities Whine & Complain Just Like Everybody Else

As a society, we’ve been trained to look up to people whose job it is to pretend everyday to be someone other than who they are. And because of the glitz and glamour associated with their Hollywood lives, we put them up on pedestals and give extra weight to what they say – for no reason other than the fact that they’re famous.

I hate to break it to you, but I have trained some celebrities and stars – and the truth is they are no different than you or I. Granted, it’s their job to look great all the time, so they spend a ton of time and money making sure they keep on looking good. But they whine and complain just as much as the rest of us. Wouldn’t you love to get paid to look good, rather than paying someone to help you look better?

Once upon a time, only celebrities hired personal trainers, in part because only celebrities could afford them, but also because looking good was viewed primarily as the arena of the famous. It’s good to know we regular folks are getting smarter, in that we’re beginning to realize just how important personal training is in the lives of everyone, not just famous people. If you think about how important a healthy body is to every aspect of your life, you might come to realize that a good trainer is more important than your hair dresser, your CPA, or even your mechanic. In fact, a personal trainer is a mechanic – only the machine he or she works on is not a car, but the most important machine you will ever own: your body.

Personal trainers help keep you healthy by motivating you – and the celebrities – to get in shape and keep off the fat.

The Results of Quick-Fix Shape-Up Programs Never Last

I am constantly amazed when I hear celebrities and their personal trainers promoting their diets and/or nutritional products. If the alleged “professionals” holding the media limelight still don’t know how the body functions (and far too many of them don’t), it’s no wonder our nation just keeps on getting fatter. There are two significant problems with quick-fix formats for training and nutrition. First, these extreme exercise and diet regimens that quickly get stars in phenomenal shape for a movie role or a tour are terrible for the body. Yet many celebrities are willing to do whatever it takes to get in shape as quickly as possible because they know their jobs could be on the line. Secondly, regular people, fans of these fabulous-looking stars, try to follow the celebrities’ diet and exercise programs, only to wind up failing, both because they cannot keep up the extreme regimens and because the programs are unnatural and impossible to sustain for any length of time.

Remaining super-lean year-round can be challenging, especially if you’re on an exercise program that leans you down in as little as 8 to 12 weeks, such as a bodybuilder’s diet and exercise regimen. This process can get you looking phenomenal for a day or two, but I guarantee it won’t last much beyond that, because our bodies simply cannot function at that level for any sustained period of time. However, you can achieve these results and stay super-lean year-round with a lifestyle change that incorporates healthy meals and regular exercise. A program like this is geared to burn fat as opposed to primarily building muscle, unlike the regimens celebrity personal trainers often put their star clients on.

The thing is, short-term training programs to get in shape for a one- or two-day event (like a bodybuilding contest) do work, but because they occur at an unnaturally rapid pace, they cannot be carried out for any real length of time, at least not without doing serious harm to the body. But sure enough, most celebrity personal training programs are designed around this quick-fix process because so few personal trainers really understand anatomy and human kinetics, the science of how the human body functions. There are well-educated trainers – they just happen to be unfortunately rare. I have worked in the industry for many years, and seldom encounter other trainers who have degrees or even quality certifications, or who continue to develop their education and expand their knowledge about human function and performance. In this unregulated industry, no one is checking to see if personal trainers are performing any kind of continuing ed – and I promise you, most are not.

All this is not to say that you should not hire a personal trainer. Hell, even personal trainers who know hardly anything about creating a quality exercise or nutrition program still can create an environment where you can get in great shape. They can motivate you to achieve better health and make much further progress than you would likely ever accomplish on your own. Almost any personal trainer is better than no personal trainer. Almost.

Differing Levels of Training Experience – and Results

Certainly there are people reading this who feel they can do it – the fitness program and healthy diet – all on their own. More power to anyone who can create a healthy eating plan, incorporate a weight training routine, and practice a regular cardio regimen on their own. Please know, however, you are the extreme exception. For many people, the problem isn’t in creating the program or even finding the discipline to commit to it. The problem is that in trying to do it all themselves, they are creating the wrong program for the results they wish to achieve. These are the folks who train regularly, yet see little or no results. They then get frustrated and quit, thinking they have tried everything when it comes to losing fat, that they simply must not be disciplined enough – when, in reality, discipline has very little to do with it.

There also are those who think they know a lot because they’ve achieved great results on their own, when in actuality, they’ve just been blessed with good genes and would benefit by doing almost any kind of exercise. Most of your models, movie stars, and celebrities fall into this category, so any exercise and nutritional program a personal trainer gives them is likely to work like a charm. Under the guidance of a knowledgeable personal trainer and certified nutritionist, these people would see more and better results than they had ever dreamed possible. And the best part would be that the results would last, rather than simply providing the short-term fix they’ve become used to.

Lastly, of course, are the people who don’t care about their health, don’t have time to exercise, or never exercise, because exercise hurts, they hate to sweat, or their self-esteem is in the toilet and they figure it’s a waste of time to even try. While this sort of personal apathy toward preserving one’s health through exercise and proper eating may seem like no one’s business but the individual’s, it really is a very selfish act. Treating your body well, including getting regular exercise and eating healthy food, is the most unselfish thing you can do. Think about it – if you don’t take care of yourself now, sooner than later, others will have to take care of you. Since you were too lazy, busy, or depressed to invest the time or energy in staying healthy, you will, inevitably, make others suffer.

A Qualified Trainer Will Tailor a Program to Meet Your Needs

If companies and governments were wise, personal trainers would be mandatory and health insurance would cover them. Well, a guy can dream, can’t he? Seriously, even if you only see a trainer once a week – or even once a month – to check in and make sure you’re performing your exercises properly, it’s better than not seeing one at all.

Take the time to do the research, and then invest in a qualified trainer who is knowledgeable about how to help you achieve your personal goals. If you have a special need – a back injury, joint problems, limited range of motion – find someone who can address your issues specifically. Don’t jump on the latest celebrity trainer bandwagon, just because the person is a trainer to the stars. Find a personal trainer who knows how to train your human body and get you results.

Fame Doesn’t Equal Expertise – Particularly in the Health & Fitness Industry

Celebrity personal trainers, spokesmodels, movie stars, athletes, and other rich and famous people probably got where they are because they’re great at what they do. That does not mean you should follow their advice about health and nutrition. You probably wouldn’t ask a plumber advice about how to change your car’s oil, would you? Likewise, celebrities may look good, but that doesn’t mean they – even celebrity trainers – know anything about proper exercise and nutrition. Hire a health, fitness, and nutrition professional. They are the only people whose advice you should take regarding these subjects. Even medical doctors generally are not the best advocates for proper fitness and nutrition, because they are trained in specific fields and seldom are aware of how all the parts of the body work and move in cooperation.

Have you ever noticed how some of the famous people dishing health advice are not even in that great of shape? Why would you take advice from someone who isn’t in peak physical condition? That’s like getting your hair cut by a stylist with a bowl cut or having a gap-toothed orthodontist install your braces. Not to mention that anyone can look great, but still feel terrible because they achieved their looks through an unhealthy method.

Research Pays Off When Searching for a Qualified Trainer

The thing is, you don’t know what you don’t know. As a result, many people fall into the trap of buying the baloney stars like Britney Spears, Oprah, and Dr. Phil are selling. And even though a star might actually have a fabulous, incredibly knowledgeable trainer, a lot can be misinterpreted between the time the trainer offers exercise or diet specifics to his celebrity client and the time that celebrity repeats the info to his or her adoring public. It’s like that game of Telephone you played when you were a kid – by the time the information reaches you, it has turned into misinformation.

How do you know who to believe anyway? One star says they got great results by simply lifting weights and eating fewer calories. The next celebrity says they lost tons of weight by eating a low-fat diet high in protein. Another famous somebody swears by a daily swim, lots of veggies, and whole lot of good carbs. Arghhhhhh!!!! It all sounds confusing as hell. And, in a way, it is.

A program that’s right for a size-2 supermodel probably is not right for a heavy stay-at-home mom who is just now learning to incorporate any exercise into her day. The proper program for an individual depends on his or her biochemistry and the specific way their body functions. Understanding human kinetics is not as easy as A-B-C. When it comes to the human body, there may be many underlying reasons why one person begins a simple walking program and, voila, they look phenomenal, while another person runs, lifts weights, and kills themselves in the gym, only to step on the scale and find they’ve gained another pound.

The human body is awash in mysteries, and a good personal trainer will help you solve yours so you can lose all the fat you want and add contour abs and all the muscle you desire. Again, personal training is all about you and your results. And even if all your exercise and effort don’t drop a pound off you – if you see no noticeable changes – know that the exercise is benefiting your body and your health, and it would be stupid to discontinue your program. Rather than quit, find someone to help you fine-tune your regimen so you can begin to see the results from all your hard work.

The main thing is this: Don’t follow someone’s advice just because they claim to be a personal trainer to the stars or charge 0 an hour. None of that means their program will get you the results you want. There are no healthy quick fixes. Get on a quality exercise program and eat properly, period. Don’t waste time, money, or energy, only to become frustrated. Do the research and hire a professional who can give you sensible advice that will get you on your way to looking good and feeling great.

Understand how to lose weight is quite easy, people gain weight because they eat more than their body actually needs, so the body burns the amount it needed and stores the rest as fats. The main key is to burn more calories than you eat, so the body would burn fat that it stored to fulfill its needs, hence you lose weight. Eating healthy food will surely help you to be in shape. There are products that guarantee weight loss in very short time like a week or two, remember that’s not the right way to lose weight. Some of these products work and some don’t, even if they work, they can cause severe damage to the body. Remember for one pound you want to lose, you have to burn 3500 calories, too much isn’t it? So weight loss needs time, and all those products who promise to lose your weight fast will surely leave some side effects in your body (probably the heart). Eat healthy, avoid food with high fats.

Eating healthy includes more veggies, protein, and less fat. Plan your meals with healthy food and stick to it. Weight loss doesn’t come easy so be patient, learn to wait. It may take a while to show the results but have faith. It is advisable to create a table of the food you eat and calculate the total calorie intake, which is how you will be able to know how much calories you intake on a daily basis and how much calories you have to burn in order to lose weight. Exercises are used to burn fat, so this is also very important. Cardio exercises such as a treadmill can do wonders in losing weight as well. When people don’t see results soon they get depressed and fall back to the normal lifestyle they used to have, that’s not the answer, and you don’t have to give up. Weight loss is not easy but it’s possible and is within your power. Affirmative sentences can also help to a certain extent; people probably will not get depressed or lose faith when they are using affirmative sentences.

Why let yourself be tempted by seductive packages? If you must have snack foods, limit yourself to those you can eat without going crazy. It is never easy to stay fit through the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. With everything from the big holiday dinners to sugar induced office parties, it is almost impossible to stick to a regular fitness routine and healthy eating plan. Here are Team Fitness America’s top 10 tips to stay fit, remain trim, and protect you from having to do a post holiday, crash diet.

Eat before you go to any event or holiday party.

Eating before you go to a place full of great tasting food, allow yourself to be full, giving you the ability to avoid all the heavy hors d’oeuvres stockpiled at each holiday event. Holiday parties and events are full of high fat foods and pastries. The time between Halloween and New Years proves, each year, to be a period full of high calorie events that can leave you only to be depressed from the addition of unwanted pounds. We have all kinds of events from the Harvest Festival to a Christmas Gala and even the Pineapple Festival, which each are all themed around different types of food. If you go with your stomach already semi full, then you will notice that most of the foods are not as appealing to eat. Munch on a few items and still have a good time, but by not going to your event hungry you will still feel satisfied, not tired from overeating, and accomplish not offending your hosts.

Get on a solid, effective nutritional plan.

Knowing what to eat is half the battle. Most people, deep down inside, know what foods are bad for them to consume but neglect to go with their “gut feeling” due to the lack of a plan or regime. Other people honestly do not have any idea and might think, “Cheese has milk and is a protein, and therefore cheese is good for me.” Well, some cheese is good for you and some is not. With a solid, easy to follow nutritional plan, you will know what foods to avoid, what is good to eat, and what to venture towards at a holiday buffet, party, or other food event. A nutritional plan that covers your food choices, giving you foods that you like to eat, and the correct amount of caloric intake you should have will assist when you need it most.

Be accountable and stick with it.

Track your food in your online journal. An online journal is a great source for tracking, providing you with the ability to enter all of your food choices for the week, and if you have one, sync it to your PDA for ideal results. That way, if you are at a party or event and you want to see what might fit into your daily-allotted calories, then you will find yourself less likely to overindulge with unnecessary calories.

Always be ready and plan ahead.

If you know at 3pm, the office fills up with cakes and cookies, then plan ahead. Allow yourself one sweet at that time and plan healthy meals around that sweet so that you do not fill up on junk all day.

Lose the “I ate badly this meal so the whole day is shot” mentality.

So what you ate the doughnut for breakfast. Have a healthy lunch and counteract the bad food downfall. Assuming that one bad food choice has wrecked your whole day is not true and it is simply an excuse to eat badly for the rest of the day. Stop that behavior before it becomes a regular thought.

Make tomorrow today.

Most plans for eating healthy tend to be delayed with the thoughts of tomorrow or “When January rolls around I will have a great New Year’s resolution.” Every day you wait to eat healthy and exercise is one more day that you are further away from reaching your fitness goals. Instead of thinking about what you plan to do better tomorrow, just buckle down and do it today. Dig your heels in, make the call to a fitness professional, and get started today. Support throughout the holidays is exactly what you need both physically and mentally.

Hire a personal trainer or fitness specialist to get your fitness goals on track.

Seeing your relatives and friends once a year is now more common than ever, especially since we all are so geographically spread out, and you need to make the best impression possible. If you slack on your exercises or do not want to track your own progress, then a fitness trainer will stay on top of you and your goals. Some of us simply will not exercise unless we know that we have someone coming over to our house to make us do it. So hire a personal trainer to jump-start your exercise routine.

Use a service that emails you updates every day.

Some of us need more than just a personal trainer a few times a week and need daily encouragement with continued motivation. Some services, like Team Fitness America, provide daily nutritional and fitness updates with encouragements to keep us on track while we are attempting to meet our fitness and health goals. You can even upload before and after pictures so you can track your own progress visually and print out shopping lists to take to the store with you so you do not make impulse buys.

Refuse a junk food sale.

A lot of us buy things we do not really want or simply because it “is on sale”. Just because the potato chips are buy one get one free does not mean you should buy them. If you look at what sales are posted and where they are posting them, then you will notice that the high fat cookies and chips are usually on sale while being exactly at eye level with colorful, eye-catching wrappers and inviting pictures. Think of the grocery store prying your hard-earned cash out of your hands as you lift that gallon of ice cream into your cart. You do not need it, your body does not want it, and see it for what is it, a marketing tactic to get you to buy it. Ever notice the healthy food is tucked into a small corner, a bottom shelf, or usually in the backside of the super market and you have to ask where it is?

Refuse the dollar menu at the drive through.

Almost all of the dollar items are cheap, easy to make, and filled with empty calories and high fat. Take a second look at the menu and order the more healthy options, such as a salad without the hefty dressing, grilled chicken, or the many other healthy options that most fast food restaurants have place in their menu as opposed to the dollar double cheeseburger or fried onion rings.  Because it is cheap does not make it healthy or good food for you, it simply makes it cheap food.

Keep in mind that as the holidays approach you need to be ready to tackle them with gusto and be ready for whatever parties and unhealthy eating events that take place. Companies, such as Team Fitness America (http://www.teamfitnessamerica.com), can assist with you with both the nutritional and exercise side of your life while keeping you accountable as you reach your goals.

Make friends with your freezer with our clever tips and your will have lots of recipes for healthy food and 30 minutes meals.  Save time, money and your sanity!

quick dinner recipes, 30 minute meals, recipes for healthy food, best ground beef recipes, freezer meals

We all need quick dinner recipes and 30 minute meals are at the top of the list.  However, we also want nutritious, tasty, low-cal, low-carb meals…NOW!  Does this sound familiar?  And as much as we all love the idea of a homemade beef stew or a luscious homemade meatball recipe, more often than not, there just is not the time to produce that kind of food after we have rushed in from work, school or ferrying the kids.

However, make friends with your freezer and this, in fact, does become possible.

Freeze batches of fried onion.

When you have a chance, chop a whole load of onions.  I often do 12 large onions at a time.  Pour a little oil into a large pot and fry the onions until they soften and take on a deep caramel color.  You may find it easier to do this in two pots. Cool the onions and then transfer equal quantities to freezer containers.  I would transfer the equivalent of one to two onions to each container.  Label each container and then freeze.

Now you are able to have some fun.  You want to make one of those best ground beef recipes? No problem. You are already half way there.  Whilst your meat is browning, simply defrost the onions and then add them along with the other ingredients.  You have the beginning of Chili con carne, a Beef and Noodle Casserole or a Ground Beef Goulash.

Freeze breadcrumbs and egg whites

No, I have not lost the plot!  If you have leftover breadcrumbs, simply pop them in a freezer container, mark them and freeze them.  Next time you want to whizz up meatballs or crumb a piece of fish, the work has been done for you already.

The same applies to egg whites.  They freeze very well for a couple of months.  Put the leftover egg whites into a container and mark HOW MANY THERE ARE ie “3 egg whites.”  Next time you feel inspired to whip up meringues or need egg white for an icing recipe, all you have to do is defrost them on low in the microwave and you’re set.

Freeze batches of a basic Bechamel Sauce Recipe

Make a large batch of your favorite Bechamel Sauce Recipe.  I often do triple the usual quantity.  Again, decant into freezer containers and mark.  You now have the basis for a whole range of dishes, from your best baked macaroni cheese recipe to baked fish in a sauce.  You can add simple ingredients to make a pasta sauce or you could add the Bechamel sauce to a Lasagna or Moussaka.  But the key thing is, that part of the work has already been done, thereby making it completely viable to have a nutritious meal on the table in a relatively quick time.

Double up your recipes

This almost seems a no-brainer but it is worth being reminded.  If you are going to make one batch of your favorite Beef Curry Recipe, make two – one for now, and one for the freezer.  Apply the same rule to any stews, simple ground beef recipes and even chicken casseroles.  Most of these dishes are good natured and will freeze well.  I love nothing more than being able to haul out a nutritious meal from the freezer on those stressed-out days.  Moreover, I know that there are no preservatives, additives and colorants in the food that I have frozen.  Plus, my freezer meal has cost nothing like the supermarket equivalent and always tastes better.

Organize your freezer

Try to be disciplined as to how you pack your freezer. Try to put ready-made meals on the same shelf or in the same drawer.  Similarly, frozen raw ingredients should go together.  Put “little bits” together – egg whites, chopped frozen fresh herbs, leftover sauces and so on.

A particularly helpful shelf in our freezer is the LUNCH BOX shelf.  In this drawer there are all makings for healthy lunchboxes.  There is leftover chicken, frozen in between layers of waxed paper.  There are cooked burgers or ham.  There are wraps, croissants, or muffins.  This means that when we make lunchboxes at night it is easy for the whole family to get involved and hone in on the correct drawer.  It seems to simplify things and is certainly cheaper than take-out food.

Organize your freezer labels, pens etc

Have a set place in your kitchen where you keep your freezer containers. Stack them logically according to size and use.  Nearby, have a drawer that keeps your freezer labels, marking pens, plastic bags, waxed paper and freezer tags.  This means that that it not an onerous task popping a label onto your container and you will never wonder what that mysterious frozen lump in the freezer is again!

So, just as you take charge of certain areas of your life, take charge of your freezer!  Producing easy healthy recipes will suddenly become a pleasure.   With a little bit of thought and simple meal planning, you can save time, money and your sanity!easy-meal-planning offers a free plan and free recipes.
