Italian foods are very well known and well loved all around the world. It is always possible to find Italian food in some form on any continent. The foods are full of flavor and emanate an aroma which only serves to enhance the flavors. The flavors occur in part due to the use of particular ingredients like various cheeses, tomatoes and olive oil are always included in their recipes. Staples like wheat and semolina flour are included in the pastas and bread. Some of the more renowned Italian dishes include pizza and pasta dishes. They’re so well adored that families and eateries in the United States and Europe took the recipes and tailored them to their own culture.

The history of Italian food goes back to the Roman empire. Italian recipes emerged around 2000 years ago. Italian food gained popularity and got divided into various types of regional sub cuisines after the fall of the Roman Empire. It was categorized into 3 parts:

Northern Italian Recipes: These dishes are prepared largely by making use of ingredients like pork, rice, fish, rice and corn. Various kinds of cheese and sausage preparations are also contained in these recipes.

The Central Italian Food, which includes the delectable Lasagna, Tortellini and Ham, in addition to a wide selection of pasta recipes, served in conjunction with delicious sauces.

Southern Italian Recipes: In this region ingredients like fish, cheese, tomatoes, olives, capers, artichokes, sardines, tuna and olive oil all play a huge role. Olive oil is used generously in salads and pasta dishes.

A variety of ingredients are used in preparing Italian food, which range from different fruits and vegetables to rich cheese, cream and other milk products along with poultry, pork, seafood and fish. Outside of Italy, the most popular dishes include pastas, pizzas and Italian breads, but Italian recipes also include various types of soups, salads and sausages which are highly valued by gourmets, preferably along with a glass of Italian wine.

Pasta recipes made out of wheat flour or durum wheat semolina play an important role in Italian dishes all over the world. The different kinds of pastas used to make a host of recipes include Linguini, Penne, Fetucini, Spaghetti and Ravioli.

We all need quick dinner recipes and 30 minute meals are at the top of the list.  However, we also want nutritious, tasty, low-cal, low-carb meals…NOW!  Does this sound familiar?  And as much as we all love the idea of a homemade beef stew or a luscious homemade meatball recipe, more often than not, there just is not the time to produce that kind of food after we have rushed in from work, school or ferrying the kids.

However, make friends with your freezer and this, in fact, does become possible.

Freeze batches of fried onion.

When you have a chance, chop a whole load of onions.  I often do 12 large onions at a time.  Pour a little oil into a large pot and fry the onions until they soften and take on a deep caramel color.  You may find it easier to do this in two pots. Cool the onions and then transfer equal quantities to freezer containers.  I would transfer the equivalent of one to two onions to each container.  Label each container and then freeze.

Now you are able to have some fun.  You want to make one of those best ground beef recipes? No problem. You are already half way there.  Whilst your meat is browning, simply defrost the onions and then add them along with the other ingredients.  You have the beginning of Chili con carne, a Beef and Noodle Casserole or a Ground Beef Goulash.

Freeze breadcrumbs and egg whites

No, I have not lost the plot!  If you have leftover breadcrumbs, simply pop them in a freezer container, mark them and freeze them.  Next time you want to whizz up meatballs or crumb a piece of fish, the work has been done for you already.

The same applies to egg whites.  They freeze very well for a couple of months.  Put the leftover egg whites into a container and mark HOW MANY THERE ARE ie “3 egg whites.”  Next time you feel inspired to whip up meringues or need egg white for an icing recipe, all you have to do is defrost them on low in the microwave and you’re set.

Freeze batches of a basic Bechamel Sauce Recipe

Make a large batch of your favorite Bechamel Sauce Recipe.  I often do triple the usual quantity.  Again, decant into freezer containers and mark.  You now have the basis for a whole range of dishes, from your best baked macaroni cheese recipe to baked fish in a sauce.  You can add simple ingredients to make a pasta sauce or you could add the Bechamel sauce to a Lasagna or Moussaka.  But the key thing is, that part of the work has already been done, thereby making it completely viable to have a nutritious meal on the table in a relatively quick time.

Double up your recipes

This almost seems a no-brainer but it is worth being reminded.  If you are going to make one batch of your favorite Beef Curry Recipe, make two – one for now, and one for the freezer.  Apply the same rule to any stews, simple ground beef recipes and even chicken casseroles.  Most of these dishes are good natured and will freeze well.  I love nothing more than being able to haul out a nutritious meal from the freezer on those stressed-out days.  Moreover, I know that there are no preservatives, additives and colorants in the food that I have frozen.  Plus, my freezer meal has cost nothing like the supermarket equivalent and always tastes better.

Organize your freezer

Try to be disciplined as to how you pack your freezer. Try to put ready-made meals on the same shelf or in the same drawer.  Similarly, frozen raw ingredients should go together.  Put “little bits” together – egg whites, chopped frozen fresh herbs, leftover sauces and so on.

A particularly helpful shelf in our freezer is the LUNCH BOX shelf.  In this drawer there are all makings for healthy lunchboxes.  There is leftover chicken, frozen in between layers of waxed paper.  There are cooked burgers or ham.  There are wraps, croissants, or muffins.  This means that when we make lunchboxes at night it is easy for the whole family to get involved and hone in on the correct drawer.  It seems to simplify things and is certainly cheaper than take-out food.

Organize your freezer labels, pens etc

Have a set place in your kitchen where you keep your freezer containers. Stack them logically according to size and use.  Nearby, have a drawer that keeps your freezer labels, marking pens, plastic bags, waxed paper and freezer tags.  This means that that it not an onerous task popping a label onto your container and you will never wonder what that mysterious frozen lump in the freezer is again!

So, just as you take charge of certain areas of your life, take charge of your freezer!  Producing easy healthy recipes will suddenly become a pleasure.   With a little bit of thought and simple meal planning, you can save time, money and your sanity!easy-meal-planning offers a free plan and free recipes.

You’ve may perhaps have a so many recipes in your compilation but perhaps not all of them are as good for your health as you’d would have like them to be. And in all probabilities, there?s a good chance that a lot of those recipes are the ones which you preferred the most.

So, how do you get on with shifting from your preferred food recipes into healthy recipes, the one that are good and healthier for you?

1. Cut out with the quantity of sugar, salt, and fat from your recipes. You’ll be pleasingly amazed with just how a great deal you can lower the level of salt, sugar, and fat in your meal recipes without altering the taste. If for instance, you’ve cut down excessively, it’s still workable by just adding in a bit more herbs or salt. Whole grain cereals, whole wheat pasta, and brown rice are simple but healthy alternatives and will most likely improve the taste of the meal that you are preparing.

4. Eliminate all unhealthful food ingredients in meals, if possible. A lot of meal recipes respond well to alternatives, more often than not, you can even see options written at the last part of certain recipes, so try them. For example, use instead un-frosted ingredients for frosted ones to reduce sugar. Moreover, take extra care when adding on nuts to a recipe because they have a high level of fat, likewise, the fat that can be found in nuts are normally regarded as good fat, so never slash them out completely. Lastly, allow your family members or guests to have their own preferred dips like mayonnaise, toppings and other sauces for they can provide some nutrition too.

As soon as you have begin changing your recipes to a more healthy recipes you’ll grow to be more creative and will have a list of endless better ideas on what is more effective and what are not, what taste good and what don?t. You can write it down on a notebook so it will be handy and you will have an account of your achievement with healthy cooking.

Now becoming the vegetarian is lifestyle. No wonder that more and more people are becoming vegetarian. They choose vegetarian recipes for many reasons: social or religious beliefs, availability, health concerns and taste. However, some people consider that choosing recipes for vegetarian isn’t easy and delicious.

Based on the fact, you can find good recipes for vegetarian in many locations. Just search online, in cookbooks, or at local health food stores for ideas. However, to get the right amount of nutrition for every vegetarian recipe, you should carefully plan your meal.

Here are some of the guidelines that the ADA (American Dietetic Association) has released:

1. Choose a variety of foods.
2. Avoid processed foods.
3. Eat a variety of vegetables and fruits.
4. Buy only low-fat or no fat variants of eggs and dairy products.
5. Make sure to include Vitamin B-12 and vitamin D in your meal

Related to the guidelines, recipes for vegetarian are defined as using no meat or meat products, while a vegan recipe would use no animal products at all including cheese, milk or eggs. The key to choose a vegetarian dish is to choose depending on level of your vegetarianism.

The vegetarian diet commonly includes green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, seeds, whole grains and root crops. Salads and vegetable dishes are staples in any vegetarian diet. However, there are numerous healthy recipes for vegetarian, such as bean-vegetable chili served with tortillas, rice and beans, macaroni and cheese, baked beans and corn bread, cheese rolled in chopped nuts, hummus, bread sticks with sesame seeds, and split pea soup.

Quality is crucial for vegetarian recipes. So, do not be afraid to experiment by using your favorite fruits and vegetables as substitutes in different dishes.

Choosing a Vegetarian diet to maintain a Healthy and Weight Loss program.

Permanent weight loss is easier with healthy vegetarian meals. Why? A plant based diet plan is low calorie and fills you up with high fiber foods. And fresh fruits, legumes, vegetables and whole grains contain more anti-oxidants than meat, eggs, and dairy.

Eating the most nutritious foods means speedy weight loss without hunger. Not ready to go full time vegetarian? Studies show that eating a few meatless meals every week can lower the risk of heart disease and may even prolong life.

So how could you adapt your favorite recipes to omit the meat? Here are 5 ways to cut the meat and increase the health benefits of your meals:

1. Stir-fry’s are healthy, quick, and satisfying. Substitute firm tofu, tempeh, nuts, and sesame seeds in place of chicken, beef, and seafood. Use a variety of colorful vegetables like pea pods, red bell peppers, zucchini, broccoli, and carrots for a super-charged meal. Serve with brown rice instead of white rice for a hearty, nutty taste and more fiber.

2. Substitute cooked legumes like beans and lentils for the meat in casseroles, stews, soups, and chili. Try red kidney beans in chili or stew, lentils in spaghetti sauce or stuffed cabbage rolls, and refried beans in burritos, tacos, and enchiladas. Black beans and rice make a filling main dish. Spice them up with some fresh salsa, and add avocado for healthy fats.

3. Skip the meat and add more chopped vegetables in pasta sauces, pizza toppings, soups, stews, and other mixed dishes. Vegetables like portabella mushrooms and eggplant are thick and satisfying. Use soy-based cheese instead of dairy-based cheese for added anti-oxidants.

4. Substituting for eggs and dairy in recipes can be tricky, so experiment to find the right consistency and binding agents for each dish. For example, try tofu, soymilk, soy cheese, and soy yogurt in recipes that call for dairy products. Replace ricotta cheese in lasagna with crumbled tofu. Buttermilk is a snap to make by mixing 1 cup of soy milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Use soymilk when making puddings and mashed potatoes.

5. Fruit smoothies make outstanding breakfasts or lunches, especially on hot days. Skip the dairy base and enjoy a thick, creamy fruit smoothie made with soft tofu, soymilk, or fruit juice.

Seek out vegetarian recipes on the internet. There are countless sites with creative recipes to wean you off meat. You’ll be healthier and slimmer if you can eat a few meals a week without meat, dairy, and eggs.

Healthy vegetarian recipes are considered to be economical and humane. A balanced healthy vegetarian diet provides essential nutrients, and it keeps the weight down naturally. Take note: vegetarians have very few illnesses linked to fat consumption.

Consider this: until the most recent times, grains were the staple diet, while meat was a luxury reserved for the wealthy few. However, today, in our affluent society, we use grain to fatten the cattle stock! Many critics say this is a wasteful uses of resources, as it takes less grain to feed a person directly than it takes to fatten animals to feed that person. More and more of our population has become vegetarian not only for the reason mentioned above, the reason being that vegetarians are less likely to be obese or have heart or kidney disease and/or diabetes. it is a known fact that vegetarians have lower blood pressure, and much fewer incidents of digestive tract diseases. As well, vegetarians healthy recipes are a more economical use of the earth’s resources.

Consider this: on the whole Americans consume about twice the amount of protein required, and medical experts warn that we are paying for our high meat consumption, and animal fats as well, through record rates of strokes, heart disease and certain cancers and other disorders. Of course, there are many non-believers.

Healthy Vegetarian recipes must combine grains, seeds and legumes in order to get the amount of protein they need with all the essential amino acids. There are numerous amounts of healthy vegetarian recipes. Some examples of these are;

rice and beans, bean-vegetable chili served with tortillas, baked beans and corn bread, hummus, cheese rolled in chopped nuts, bread sticks with sesame seeds, macaroni and cheese, and split pea soup. These are complimentary proteins. A healthy vegetarian diet must contain enough iron as the iron from plant sources serves only 1/4 as much as meat does. Every healthy vegetarian recipe should include a high amount of Vitamin C as the Vitamin C helps the to promote iron absorption. Good food high in Vitamin C are citrus fruits, potatoes, cruciferous vegetables, peppers melons and strawberries. Vitamin D is needed for calcium absorption and is contained in the foods egg yolks, fortified milk and fatty fish. Also, exposure to sunlight enables the body to manufacture Vitamin D.

Healthy vegan or have a much more difficult time in consuming enough calories without supplements. Vegan and fruitarians must consume large amounts of nut butters, dried fruits and breads just to maintain their weight.

The facts remain – eating healthy vegetarian recipes has many health benefits, one of which being the avoidance of OBESITY – the reason being their healthy vegetarian recipes are bulky, filling, high in fiber, low in fat and therefore, low in calories. Studies have shown that a cholesterol free plant based diet is also low in saturated fats and can reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, heart disease and stroke. Healthy vegetarian recipes also have proved to show less osteoporosis, kidney stones, gallstones, and adult-onset diabetes.

Many of us are time pressured. We want to cook healthy meals for our family but, between working long hours and spending time with our partner and kids, we just haven’t got time to cook, have we?


Actually, there is time. By changing your methods, looking through your recipe collection for quick healthy recipes or searching online for free recipes, you can cook healthy meals for your family and do everything else that your busy lifestyle requires. Ultimately, its all about ‘efficiency’ – in much the same way as business managers use time and motion studies, you can refine your kitchen techniques to be time efficient and sitll produce great cooking.


Here are 14 quick cooking tips to help you:-

* If you are chopping onions, peppers or herbs, chop twice the amount and freeze – this will save time in the future as they will be on hand for healthy recipes and vegetable recipes.

* Prepare a washing up bowl of hot soapy water so you can throw things in it to soak or wash up when things are cooking. 

* Use a magnetic, erasable shopping list board on the fridge to note down items as you run low on them. That way you will never run out of vital ingredients.

* Don’t be put off by recipes that seem to take a long time. If you read the instructions carefully, you will find that many recipes involve just 15 minutes prepartation and 45 minutes cooking in the oven. These are great for a busy lifestyle as the allow you to do other things during the ‘oven time’. 

* Build a collection of recipes – keep a file on your computer or a ring binder file of favourite healthy recipes which are quick to prepare and cook. Choose a range of recipes – diet recipes, vegetarian recipes, dessert recipes and low carb recipes.  

* Read through the recipe first and then gather together all of the ingredients and equipment you will need before you start.  

* Use the microwave – speed up grilled chicken by microwaving it first on medium high until it starts to turn white and then grill. 

* Plan ahead and use shortcuts – buy ready chopped vegetables and prepared salads. 

* If you are making a sauce, make double and freeze a batch. If you freezer is big enough, you can keep months worth of tasty sauces available at a moment or two’s notice. 

* When you have found some healthy recipes or low fat recipes, read through them and choose ones that have fewer steps or ingredients. Some free recipes online will give preparation and cooking times to help you plan. 

* Spend a weekend re-organising your kitchen – move saucepans nearer to your cooker, keep knives in a block on the worktop or on a magnetic strip on the wall, hang utensils on hooks above the work surface and know where measuring jugs and bowls are. Having things to hand and knowing where things are will cut down preparation time. 

* Keep ingredients you use frequently on hand and within reach. 

* Have a plastic bag or container on the work top for rubbish so that you don’t have to keep going to the rubbish bin. 

* Don’t rush – Rushing around can cause mistakes and accidents and therefore add more time to cooking. 

 

Remember, although preparing quick meals is a great idea to help manage your busy life, it is also important to ‘cook with love’. Fast cooking does not have to be ‘shoddy’ or cut corners, you are, after all, cooking for those you love the most and they deserve your best. Remember to pay full attention to any recipe you are preparing, no matter how quickly it is prepared – one moments loss of focus can result in a meal that is virtually inedible, and nobody will enjoy that experience.
