Positive reinforcement is the best way of training any breed of dogs. This works well in the case of greyhounds too. They are sensitive dogs and don’t respond well to harsh and punitive measures. While giving verbal praises, you should speak in a high-pitched energized voice.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Healthy Foods for Kids
How do you create healthy recipes for your kids that they will actually enjoy? Not the easiest task always. We all know that eating healthy is a requirement of staying fit, but it an be a daunting task when you have one or more children.
Kids have very peculiar tastes. One day they need peanut butter and grape jelly, the next they can’t eat anything but pizza! Some kids absolutely love the sauce on pizza, but they won’t touch spaghetti because it has tomato sauce on it! They can be strange at some times, but they are still your kids. How do you deal with it? Well hopefully we will offer some ideas here.
Healthy Recipes aren’t hard to come by, but they can be difficult to make sometimes, and other times they just won’t cut the mustard. You need ideas that your kids will enjoy on a regular basis so that you can rest easy knowing they are eating their food and, more importantly, enjoying it. If your kids don’t like what they are being fed, they will turn irritable, grumpy, and throw tantrums. So, here are some quick tips…
Make food fun
Healthy recipes don’t always include boring oatmeal and plain yogurt, though those are good places to start breakfasts instead of sugary cereals. One way to get your kids engaged in the food they eat is to let them be involved in the process of making the meal plan, and helping to make the food. If your child is still too young to help with decisions, they can always fetch bowls, spoons, etc. to feel involved in the process.
Kids always want McDonald’s? Well make it into a game…
Ask your kids in the morning, during the day, or even the day before what they want for dinner. However, tell them there are rules. The child who wins the game gets what he/she wants for dinner, and they get to help make it. So, what are these “rules”?
Rule #1- It has to be something you can make at home Rule #2- It has to have at least one vegetable included Rule #3- You can’t have eaten it in the last three days Rule #4- It can’t have any candy in it (duh…) Rule #5- If more than one child, then there has to be more than one dish. The child that doesn’t “win” the main dish contest gets to choose the side dish.
So how do you choose who wins? Well, you can either choose the kid who is the most enthusiastic about it, or you can be very arbitrary and draw numbers out of a hat. To make it fair, perhaps try switching off between kids every night.
Your kids know nothing about healthy recipes, of course, so have them use a cookbook. You can get any cookbook under the sun at Amazon.com, or just use one you already have and like.
Another thing you can try is to ask your children what meals they like best. Then, when they weed through the pizza, spaghetti, and macaroni and cheese to real food, you can simply ask if they want to learn how to make it. This helps in two respects:
It teaches your children the basics of making meals Your children will most likely enjoy their food more because they had the idea and learned what kind of effort is involved in cooking the meal and learning how to make healthy recipes in the future. Healthy Recipe Choices
If your children are really young, then just get them eating what you like (keeping it healthy and small of course) and then you can sort of side-step the “picky-eater” syndrome later on. If, on the other hand your children already have their mind made up about not wanting to try new choices, then try these healthy recipe alternatives to their possible favorites.
Spaghetti and Meatballs
Use whole wheat pasta instead of regular white pasta, or use gluten free pasta. Add garlic to the pasta sauce for the added heart-healthy benefits Use anti-biotic and hormone free meat for the meatballs (even if they are frozen and pre-made) Cut, or have them cut, everything into smaller pieces so it is more easily digested USE SMALLER PORTIONS!
Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup
Use spelt bread or sprouted grain bread Use organic, anti-biotic, and hormone free cheeses Buy organic tomato soup that doesn’t have sugar added to it USE SMALLER PORTIONS!
Pizza
Buy thin crust pizzas if you can Cut the slices smaller so kids think they are still eating two slices even if it’s only one cut into smaller pieces Have a salad before digging into the pizza Never get the buffet- even if it’s cheaper. Everyone will eat way more than they need to! Try to incorporate some veggies (ie: mushrooms, olives, peppers) to get them used to eating them. Only have pizza on rare occasions. It’s by no means healthy and it tends to pile up in the stomach Breakfasts
Healthy recipe choices for breakfast aren’t always so easy. Kids like their Coco-Puffs, Trix, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch of course. However, their bodies aren’t big fans of it. Instead, try some of these options as often as you can to get them off their sugary starts.
Oatmeal
Use the regular flavor of oatmeal, even if it is the instant stuff Add cinnamon to put a little extra flavor in Use a small amount of honey to sweeten it instead of sugar Mix in berries for added health benefits as well as taste Add apple slices to the meal and cinnamon for added flavor
Yogurt
Only buy lowfat plain yogurt. (It’s the added sugars and fruits that make it bad for you) Add fresh fruit, or canned peaches in order to add flavor. Put some oats in the yogurt for fiber Top with a little honey for the sweet factor
Smoothies
Smoothies are fun and easy to make. They can taste great and are quick fixes that you can take with you whenever. For kids, keep the serving size below 8 ounces because they do tend to pack a lot of calories and sugar (all from good sources, but nonetheless).
My favorite recipe is very simple (for two 8 oz servings):
Start with one cup of milk in the blender Add one banana Add about four strawberries Put in about two tablespoons of peanut butter (personally I like almond butter) Add 1/4 cup of plain lowfat yogurt Blend well until the mixture is red and the peanut butter is off the sides. Enjoy!
For many more smoothie recipes, check out Men’s health’s website for smoothies. Just remember to use much smaller portions for your little ones.
Like we mentioned before, healthy recipes aren’t hard to come by, they just require patience, preparation, and planning. Get these three skills down, and you will be able to ward off the obesity bully for your kids!

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – How to Learn To Cook
It seems that people found themselves on a difficult spot where learning how to cook is a necessity if one wishes to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Fast food and processed food filled with unhealthy ingredients dominate the food industry, contributing to the development of different health problems related to weight gain. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and an ideal weight is necessary if you wish to be healthy, and learning how to cook can show you a different world, a world in which natural tastes will make your taste buds go wild as nothing can compare with the taste of healthy, cooked food.
Cooking has been a big part of our lives until the food industry knew an explosion in evolution, leading to the development of processed food. This allowed people to spend more times doing other activities, leaving healthy cooking aside. Because the world is a big place, and people had different ingredients available, a difference between cultures has been established on this side as well. This enables people to choose from a variety of recipes, recipes from different parts of the world. Healthy cuisine can be addictive once the benefits of healthy eating and cooking are discovered and this healthy addiction should and is expanding once again.
Because learning how t cook might not seem easy, if a little bit of interest and passion is deposited, one can become a master in the kitchen, allowing you and your friends and family to lead a healthier life while still enjoying the delicious taste of food. To help you learn the basic steps in cooking we have selected a few steps which you can take into account whenever you consider it’s time:
Buy all the necessary cooking utensils as these are the first things you will need. Try to invest in good quality products as they will last longer and will turn out to be a more profitable investment. Stove, oven, pots, trays, mixer, are the basic things you will need to start cooking healthy food.
Buy cookbooks, watch different cooking shows or even take your healthy recipes off the Internet as there are a variety of healthy recipes you can find effortlessly. These recipes are explained step by step, allowing you to have a home cooked meal easily. Choose to experiment with different cultural cuisines so you can discover flavors you never knew existed.
Try to be patient as nothing can be learned overnight. Learning how to cook can take a bit of time and in that time some dishes might not turn out the way you expected but practice and don’t give up and you will soon become a master chef in your own home.
Once you learn the basics try some cake and sweets recipes and you will be able to eat healthy treats as well. Homemade sweets are delicious, plus you have the advantage of demonstrating your creativity as well by inventing your own recipes.
Start with easy cooking recipes and your your way to more complicated ones as this way you will not feel overwhelmed by the new information. The more you practice the easier it will get and if you put love into what you do there is no way you’ll get it wrong.
Search for different tips and tricks as they can be very helpful when it comes to cooking.
Do try to organize you time so you can eat properly and have enough time to cook your favorite dishes.
Cooking can be so much fun, just take the example of experimented and internationally known chefs like Jamie Oliver, Rachel Ray, Emeril Lagasse, Martha Stewart, etc.
Test your skills and you will soon learn the difference in quality and taste of healthy, cooked food.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – How I Learned To Cook
Cooking for yourself is hands down the the most empowering thing you can do for your longevity. If you don’t know how, cookbooks can seem a little intimidating. May my journey from cooking ineptitude to culinary mastery inspire you to begin firing up that stove. Enjoy!
By Coach Michael Ezell
The year was 2005: The economy was relatively stable (or so we thought), the oceans were free of BP oil, and Tiger woods was known more for his golf swing than his swinging ways. On the home front, I was relatively happy. I mean, my kids were healthy and doing well in school, puberty had not yet transformed my teenager into an alien from the TV show “V”, and I got to eat dinner every night without cooking a thing. No, really. In fact, in over thirty years I had never created a meal my self that hadn’t involved a can opener, a bowl or a spoon (Can you say Chunky Soup?). And what was the big deal anyway? My wife Sonja seemed to be a Super Woman, able to work all day, go to night school a few days a week, study, cook and do dishes all without so much as a grumble, rolled eye or even a smirk.
Then, one day, all that changed… and fast.
There were no signs of the pending doom that was to completely change our household forever. No thunderclaps in the distance. No bolts of lightning upon the horizon. Nothing. One day Sonja simply stopped cooking. She pretended that she had never cooked for us in her life and that she wasn’t about to begin now. It was amazing! A complete shift in behavior. I thought I would wait her out. We went one day, then two then three…then a week without dinner. Each night, Sonja would peacefully sit in front of her laptop to study, seemingly oblivious to the starvation occurring all around her. She’d sit there, eat her sandwich that she’d make for herself and no one else. How could I convince her that she was wrong? I mean I didn’t have a leg to stand on. It wasn’t as if there was some valid argument that I could conjure up to convince her that she needed to march her hips back into that kitchen and make my lazy ass a meal. There was Possibly the fact that I had zero cooking experience and that the children could, in a matter of weeks begin to resemble a Feed The children commercial and I would resemble Tom Hanks in Castaway, but instead of talking to Wilson, I’d have him impaled on a spit preparing to chew him to death. I was afraid, however that Sonja was in a place where none of this would sway her from starving us out of complacency.
The Paradigm Shift
I began to hear the clarion call of martyrdom as the cold, frightening reality settled upon me: If the household were ever to eat again, I would have to sacrifice my precious time, energy and will in service of the greater good-my starving family.
I hadn’t a clue as to where on earth I would begin my culinary journey. Cook books seemed way too intimidating. The authors all seemed to want to make me into a four star chef-or even worse, Martha Stewart. I didn’t have time for that crap! As I established earlier, I was sacrificing my time here. Oh sure it was time that I spent surfing the web for clips of astronauts doing MJ’s Moon Walk on the actual moon or petting the dog, or looking in the mirror trying to determine if that was in fact a gray hair in my beard or just the way that the light hit the follicle, but it was time none the less.
No, I needed real-world, 21st century solutions to my dilemma.
Enter Men’s Health.
I’d been buying or subscribing to Men’s Health Magazine since the beginning of my adult life. More often than not I’d never read an issue from cover to cover. Usually after no more than 2 articles and a handful of health tips that mag would end up in the rack or under the bed or stacked in my closet of archives. But this time was different. This time, I actually read the issues and I was shocked by all of the healthy recipes they had in each one. Not only did they have recipes, but the recipes were ultra healthy, simple to do and varied in scope. They had recipes for every meal of the day. I soon began cooking the meals in strict accordance with the recipe instructions. My family was pleasantly surprised and delighted by my efforts. My wife in particular really seemed to enjoy the meals. I mean, she would actually get excited at mealtime! Well, as a guy, when your woman gets excited about something that you’re doing, you’re going to do it repeatedly… at least until she says, “Enough already!!”.
Soon I would begin to augment the recipes, deviating from them in order to change things up a bit. I quickly discovered that I had a knack for creating in the kitchen and before I knew it, I was creating meals and writing down my own recipes!
Today I absolutely dazzle my whole house with my cooking. Really. My youngest girl often dons her “Daddy’s little Sous Chef” apron to help me out in the kitchen. It’s a wonderful bonding experience. When I get home from work, the first thing that I do is hit the kitchen. It’s a meditation: the chopping of the zucchini. The crushing of garlic. The searing of meat. Brainstorming yet another way of enhancing a particular sauce for the salmon. It focuses you. Relaxes you. You go into your head and glean for ideas while you’re centered by all the chopping, shredding and the like.
Reasons to Cook
But, by far, the best part about cooking for yourself is that when you feed yourself, corporations are not feeding you. Not to label all corporations as uncaring, because there are many good ones, but our current obesity epidemic is proof that allowing corporations to feed you instead of farmers, fishermen and/or gardeners, will make you fat and unhealthy. We’re talking produce verses products here people. Whole food in stead of fast food.
When a company’s payoff is to make you, the consumer, full and healthy, you can trust them. but, when they’re payoff is solely to get your money in order to appease shareholders, you cannot trust what they put in your mouth. The ideal free market is one in which the primary relationships are between a company and it’s customers. In the current corporate climate, it’s about the company and it’s shareholders, leaving you as the third wheel. All of us can change that when we take back control of our nutrition. If all of us cooked more, and cooked healthily, corporations would begin to mimic what we’re making in the kitchen in order to appease market demand, not solely the bottom line. Oh, for sure, stocks may initially decline as a result of the change, but it would be a reflection of something good, for not all profit is profitable.
Cooking for yourself empowers you. You get to decide how healthy you want to be. It’s about taking ownership of your life, being responsible for both the good and the bad. It’s also a hell of a lot cheaper than eating out when done right.
The result of my daily meals is that my household is a relatively thin and healthy one. These results are far more important to me than anything else I would have to do at home after work. I am so grateful to my wife for her wise actions. Cooking healthy doesn’t have to be time consuming. I usually spend no more than an hour in the kitchen. But looking at my meals, you would swear that I spend more time in preparation and cooking. Today I believe (with tongue firmly lodged in cheek) that behind every great male cook, there’s a wise woman who likely refused to do it. ~Coach Mike
Why Club Membership is better than a Men’s Health Subscription
Had I known back in ’05 what I know now, I could’ve canceled my Men’s Health subscription altogether for a club membership with Team Beachbody. The Meal Plan tool that we offer at Team Beachbody takes all of the work out of planning your meals. I used to have to tear out magazine pages and cut and paste the recipes neatly into a little card and place the card in a card holder, then place them in order. And if the recipes didn’t fit on the 4X6 card, I’d have to write them out on the cards. With the Team Beachbody meal planning tool, you just type in what workout program that you’re using if any, along with a few other stats and Voila! The system gives you a shopping list for you to print out and shop with. It also provides you with recipes which correspond to the food you just purchased for you to refer to throughout the week. With the meal planning tool you can also scale the recipes to accommodate your family and customize them if there are meals you either don’t like or are allergic to! The scalability means that you don’t need to make a meal for your family and then another for yourself. I used to have to figure out how to scale the meals myself, sometimes being off in my measurements.
Here are all the benefits of club membership:
•10% discount on fitness programs, gear, and supplements.
•Full access to Beachbody TV, including exclusive Trainer Tips, Healthy Eating Tips, Style Tips, and Lifestyle Tips.
•VIP access to our celebrity Trainers. Watch their videos, ask them questions, and read their motivational articles.
Chat live with your favorite Trainers in the exclusive VIP Chat Room.
•Personalized meal plans and delicious recipes that make it easy to lose weight.
•Your own personal blog to journal your progress and share your ideas and opinions.
•Access to fitness articles and tips to help you maximize your workouts.
•Access to nutrition articles and tips to make healthy eating simple and satisfying.

As a result food products having these expressions may not meet USDA standards. Where foods identified as light, fat free, reduced. healthy and natural must adhere to standard definitions.
